And why must we be cursed with such a dreary, monotonous anthem? I assume the other candidates in 1982 must have been worse. Like you said, ‘Advance Australia Fair’ isn’t sung, it’s intoned. :/

La Marseillaise… dogs of war, blazing cities, tyrants and despots falling, and sung to a catchy tune… now THAT is a serious anthem! Can we steal it from the French?

We must know the wrong people, Richie. I’ll be going to a neighbourhood Christmas drinks & BBQ in a couple of weeks, my first attendance in all the 13 years living on this street, and I’ll bet the same wilful ignorance will be thrown my way. I could shut up, of course, and restrict my chatter to the weather or, God forbid, cricket, but that’s never ever happened. As a result, my wife refuses to join me.

Not really returning to blogging. Don’t have the jam anymore. As for dear old HH, he’s either living in a goat shed in the Pyrenees, or dead. If I ever win the lottery, I’ll try to track him down.

Great to see you blogging again Will! I enjoyed those old SATT posts below too… may we never forget those days. Is there any truth to the rumours that Harold Hark will return to Australia to lead the resistance in the event of an Abbott government? :P

I had a vigorous political discussion with a guy at a party last weekend… he insisted that Julia Gillard is a communist (a common belief amongst the tinfoil hat brigade right now). I gave him a history lesson about the differences between this country and the Soviet Union and pre-Deng Xiao Ping China. I really must learn just to quietly nod and be silent…lol

The more a formerly homogenous country becomes ethnically diverse, the more it moves to the right. Not always, but more often than not. The more your neighbour doesn’t look like you, the less you want to share. See Professor Putman for such studies.

You know I still play his music, have CDs made for the car, even made a three-CD set of my favorites… Mark Tucker wrote an article on Mike, told me the family didn’t want to talk about his death or anything else. So it remains a mystery. I think we lost a beautiful soul there, and those closest maybe didn’t see it. But we did.

I was also devasted when I learned of Michaels death last year the very day he passed six years prior. He was a very kind soul you would not have known he had issues, but he diid have a heart breaking childhood his father was ill and effected him greatly. Michael liked his wine . When I knew him the drinking was pure social in the eightys he was the kind of man that would smile and make you feel all was good with the world.He loved his music .
